ExifRenamer V2.1.1 released
This version provides a "Check for updates..."-feature and fixes a language-problem of the PayPal system.
ExifRenamer V2.1.0 released
The main feature of this version is that ExifRenamer now is a Universal Binary application which runs natively on Mac OS X machines equipped with an intel or PowerPC processor. This version also fixes some smaller bugs.
I am currently working on a new major update of ExifRenamer which I could have ready within some weeks if I have enough spare time left.
Classic-Computing 2007
Classic-Computing 2007 On 2007-09-30 I visited the small show "Classic-Computing 2007" in Stuttgart/Germany. If you like to see some pictures of this exhibition, feel free to visit my picture gallery.
Summary 2006 / Year 2007 greetings
In spite of the enormous delay, I have decided to publish a summary of my personal year 2006:
English version / German version
Doing hardware developments, again
Hardware development After having spent quite a lot of my spare time for several software developments, I have started developing hardware, again. By following the title link you can see some pictures of the setup I have worked with recently.
GB60Board schematics and layout released
GB60 Even though I've finished this board already at the beginning of the year, I've found no time for a release until today.
I now release the schematics, the layout and a short documentation together with a demonstration firmware to allow a greater audience to get access to the outstanding 9S08 family of microcontrollers from Freescale. I am sorry for the delay and hope that you'll like this project!
Golden Image Mousepad
If you own one of those old, but really excellent optical Amiga mices from Golden Image but seach for a new mouse pad, I can provide some help: Just print this picture with a high resolution printer... ;-) Works really very well! Unfortunately I have forgotten the correct scaling factor. However, it is quite easy to find out the right dot size - especially if you still own the old (damaged) mouse pad.
Summary 2005 / Year 2006 greetings
English version / German version
Laser photos
Laser photos At New Year's eve I provide instead of a firework some laser photos.
Lasers are as well "colorful" and - correctly used - as effectful as a firecracker... ;-)
Universal "GB60Board"
GB60 Some weeks ago I finished my design of a very small, universal microcontroller board powered by the Freescale 9S08GB60 microcontroller. I will publish a whole lot of information about this board within the next time.
Pictures of july/august 2005
Pictures of july/august 2005. To add some more recent content to my photos section, I have made a gallery of some pictures I have taken in july/august of summer 2005.

I hope you enjoy them!
Experimental driving circuit for a synchronous harddrive motor
HD-motor Some days ago I played around with a killed harddrive's synchronous motor which usually turns the harddrive platters. I asked myself how the driving circuit would look like to bring such a motor to life.
As it sounded like an interesting experiment, I've developed an experimental driving circuit to bring the motor to it's limits. Read more under the title link (incl. video of the experiment)...
Summary 2004 / Year 2005 greetings

Server misconfiguration!
Due to a misconfiguration of my web hoster, the scripts of my homepage aren't working fully correct. I am in contact with my web hoster to fix the server installation and to bring this site soon completely online again.
Sorry for the trouble!
2004-07-21, Update: The problems have been solved in the meanwhile - everything now works again as usual.
Holiday 2004-06
Holiday 2004-06 Under the tile link you can find some pictures I took during my holiday which I spent in the Upper Palatinate (Oberpfalz/Germany), my parent's home area.
AmigaOS 4 event in Essen, Germany
AmigaOS 4 event in Essen, Germany On 2004-05-15, an AmigaOS 4 event took place in Essen, Germany. I attended this event to meet Amiga people and to show the current results of my port of ArtEffect to AmigaOS 4.

Under the title link you can see a photo gallery of the pictures which I took in Essen.
Experiments with the microwave oven
Halogen lamp in microwave oven Yet again I did some interesting experiments with my microwave oven - but this time documented with videos and pictures. Find out more by following the title link.

Always remember:
The reproduction of these experiments is quite dangerous and probably will destroy your microwave oven!

So please don't try such things yourself!!
My first creation using GarageBand...
Yesterday afternoon I bought Apple's great software package iLife 04 containing among some other cool stuff the new software GarageBand. I wondered about what a musically totally unskilled guy like me could do with it... I have to say, for my programmers hands :-) it doesn't sound that bad... if you want to judge yourself, download it here: SecondRhythms.mp3 (8.9MB)
The name was chosen because it was my second project file... the first one noone really wants to listen to... ;-)
I would highly appreciate becoming feedback!
A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2004!

A tubes amplifier for relaxation...
tubes at night

When you have heavy stress in your daily life, a nice and warm open fire can bring an excellent relaxation. Due to the lack of a fireplace and a fire I decided to cope with stress electronically:
By using a selfmande tubes amplifier (it does glow at least)! ;-)

On the left you can see the first minutes of my prototype.
The sound quality surely cannot compete with high-end amplifiers but it is enormous impressive, though.

At the beginning, it showed a noticeable noise which I could track down to a tendence to oscillate at VHF at about 110MHz. After suppressing this characteristic, the amplifier now produces a crystal clear signal!

I'm looking forward to enjoy MP3s at evenings in the future!

BTW: 18 watts of energy is needed to heat the tubes alone!! ;-)
Change of my web hoster
Within the next few days, this website will be transferred to a new web hoster. Of course, in theory, the transition should happen without much problems - but we all know Murphy's law...
So if you encounter page downtimes or bounced mails, please try again later...
Many thanks for you patience!

The transition was done without problem or any time offline!
Sitemap added
For having a quick-access to all subpages of my homepage, there now is also a sitemap.
Not recommended for reproduction... ;-)
As it should sufficiently be known, I am a fan of strange experiments - that means small things with a great effect... Because of that, I became anxiously to do something with a lamp which sayed goodbye with a small >Plopp<...

As I'm a fan of plasma light effects and because I already have reached great results with coils in the microwave field to produce large sparks (I also succeeded to make other things to send out light, too...), the idea was not too far away: that lamp had to be tested in my microwave oven...
Hmm... what shall I say: the plasma light I have reached in this experiment was the best I have ever seen in my microwave. However, after about 3 seconds of operation (at 70Watts of microwave power), the fulminant joy of light found an end with a last and final (but much more fulminant...) big bang which unfortunately for sure did disturb the sleep of some inhabitants here in Gerlingen... ;-)

Fascinating how robust the construction of those microwave oven doors are... ;-)

This experiment is explicitely not recommended for reproduction!!!
Off Topic: Chris Kennedy's CD "Change Of Heart" now available!
During my studies in Regensburg, I met a remarkable student from Great Britain who had astonishing capabilities in terms of music - Chris Kennedy. Together with my best friend Roland Menzel, they recorded and mastered a CD full of really cool music done at several locations.
Note that it is not a usual thing that I post off-topic stuff here, but this music is really very professional and I hope that my friend Chris gets some more fans when publishing this news here... ;-)
Just have a look at Chris' page and decide yourself!
Article about AmiDock and application.library publically available
In february 2003 I wrote an article about the features of my projects AmiDock and application.library which will be included in AmigaOS4.0 for the "Club Amiga" magazine. Amiga Inc. decided to make this article now also publically accessible for other readers.
You can access it over the title link; I hope you enjoy the reading... :-)
... arrived in Gerlingen!
Gerlingen - arrived
Two weeks after arriving in Gerlingen (a nice little town very near Stuttgart, Germany), I wanted to let you know that things are stabilizing and the stress of the moves Regensburg -> parent's home -> Gerlingen more and more goes away.
On tuesday I will have worked for my employer Endress+Hauser Conducta for already two weeks now... ;-)
Things are nice and cool here in Gerlingen but I still need a bit time for acclimating.

Now I have to find a rhythm again to answer my floods of emails and to work (of course a bit more slowly than before) on my projects.
You can find the updated contact addresses on my about page.
Goodbye Regensburg...
Goodbye Regensburg
On 2003-02-28, my last day in Regensburg was over. As my future living- and working-location will be Stuttgart, I had to relutantly leave Regensburg. As I've found very good friends there, a last joint 'goodbye-meal' was unalterable... I again want to thank all my friends in Regensburg for the fantastic time!!

Note: Although I'm out of Regensburg, I'm definitely not out of world! ;-)

Important:  My address and phone number used in Regensburg is not valid, anymore!
After finishing my move to Stuttgart, I will provide updated contact data.

Furthermore I want to apologize myself for any delays which may happen in answering enquiries.
Thank your for your understanding!
A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2003!

ExifRenamer V2.0.1 released
This version is fixes some smaller bugs of version 2.0 and doesn't introduce new features - but it is worth to update it!
How to repair keyboards...
If you have a broken keyboard where one ore more keys don't respond properly, anymore, then you should read my description how to repair it in a clean way. Read more under the title link.
Java Applets-pages updated
Being also a Mac OS X user since the first day, I didn't like the fact that the applets on my homepage only worked with very few OS X browsers. I have checked several times and read a lot of documentation and I'm sure that there is a bug in OS X's appletviewer which has to do with parsing URLs. My used URL-scheme (for example ?location=applets/vlife/index) seems to confuse the URL parser.
Today I discovered a way to get all applets in spite of this problem to work by using absolute applet paths.
I have checked with every Java-enabled browser on my systems and now it works everywhere! All pages in the Java Applets section have been changed - some were even relayouted for better "user experience".
Unveiling OS3.9's AmiDock Easteregg... :-)
Yes - you perhaps never did expect that but AmiDock has an Easteregg, too... :)
As I do not know a not trustful person which could be used to spread around how this Easteregg is accessible by rumors, I had to describe it myself on my homepage... ;-)
If you're interested, please read on...
ExifRenamer V2.0 released
This version is completely rewritten from scratch and contains a lot of new features. The most important of all is, that it's now possible to fully customize the naming styles. Now there also is a better interactive mode with file preview. More then ten new features have been added and a lot of problems of the old version were solved. ExifRenamer now should be perfectly suited for normal and professional photographers.
AmiDock OS4 screenshots available
I'm proud to present you the first in-detail screenshots of the new AmiDock I developed for AmigaOS 4. The title link will bring you to the official AmigaOS 4 website of Amiga Inc.
Completely rewritten homepage is now online
qdev.de alt After almost 4 years it was time for a completely redesigned homepage. As "memory" to the old page you can have a look at the old main page on the left (click to enlarge). The old design had too much restrictions if it came to external links, multi-language support, etc. Besides that, the old homepage was hostet on a server which didn't allow to run custom scripts. This was the reason why I had to use a external guestbook (including ad banners...) and external counters.

These and other problems now belong to history!
All pages are now hostet on a big bundle of puretec, which does provide beside a lot of storage space nice features like custom scripts/CGIs and also database-access. On this platform it was possible to establish the new design.

I was asked again and again to also provide a German version of my hompage. Now I have decided to provide the whole content in two languages (Germand and English). The needed effort for translation was tremendous. The new homepage identifies your preferred language on your browser's language setting and displays all pages accordingly. Should you want to change the language, then just klick on corresponding flag on the top right.

With the new design all problems with external links are finally solved. In the past, external links propably pointed to sub-pages; because of this, the navigation-bars were suppressed - the main pages were not reachable easily. Because I wanted to avoid JavaScript for compability, there was no suitable solution for the old homepage. The new design - made completely without frames - allows a correct display.

Speaking of compability: The new homepage was tested on all reachable browsers (running on AmigaOS, MacOS, Windows, Linux, QNX, WindowsCE) and displayed correctly. This is possible, because I consequently avoided to use CSS, JavaScript, Java-Navigation-Applets or Browser-proprietary features.

All former external tools like the guestbook and counters are now running directly on qdev.de - the response time improved and I could eliminate all ads of external companies by doing so.

The page content has been extended drastically; a lot of sub-pages were added to the categories Amiga and Electronics. The different sub-pages were also re-layouted. A summary of all changes would be too long. Searching about these new pages is surely not wrong...

But now have a lot of fun with the new qdev.de!

PS: If someone finds typos or errors in the content, then I would be happy to get a short notification!
Studies finished (the first one)!
Today I got my diploma - I now have successfully finished my studies of Computer Science at the Fachhochschule Regensburg!
But as you may know, I'm some sort of crazy: my next goal is to study Physics at the University of Regensburg. Physics was and is very interesting to me and as this is propably the last chance in my life to study physics, I decided to do it... :)
ExifRenamer V1.3 released
Version 1.3 of ExifRenamer contains a cuple of smaller bug fixes. It now has Dutch localization added and supports TIFF files. Furtheron, ExifRenamer is now capable to rename raw (.crw) pictures when there exists a .thm file (for example Canon D30). It now also supports high-speed cameras which are capable of taking several photos within one second.
Current status
At the moment, I'm finishing my studies and besides that, I do a lot of stuff. The most important thing is my work in the AmigaOS4 development team. Then, I do again some ColdFire related stuff and improve also some other software available from me. Prepare yourself on updates of BDMDebug, DPMSManager and ExifRenamer (perhaps other stuff will come along, too.). I'm also working on some nice Mac OS X related things. It is to early to tell you any detaily on this, though. More to come withing the next weeks.
A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2002!
English version / German version
ExifRenamer V1.2 released
ExifRenamer replaces my former program CasioRenamer. This version fixes some problems of the previous version and introduces some helpful new features.
The first Euro money in my hands!
Euro coins
Even if I have not time for providing something thrilling new, I wanted to note this (Ok, it is a bit off-topic but still interesting). As the currency changeover on 2002-01-01 will bring to all Euro-supporting states the new currency "Euro" ( € ), the banks offered a first "Starter Kit" for the people to get accustomed to this new currency. The Starter Kit contains coins of the value €10.23 (equally to DM 20). Quite fascinating to have a totally new currency in two weeks...
CasioRenamer V1.1 released
This small update fixes some minor problems.
CasioRenamer V1.0 released
Some weeks ago, I wrote a little tool which is able to rename digital photos by its embedded date informations to avoid naming styles like "pic0001.jpg". This program names the pictures after their time information in the style "YYYY-MM-DD_hh-mm-ss.jpg". I decided that this program could be useful for some other users, too. Amiga-Users can use for this purpose my AmiCamedia program, available at Haage&Partner.
CasioRenamer was written for Mac OS X 10.1

Amiga-Users: Please don't think that I will stop development for AmigaOS! I'm just rather busy at the moment (diploma thesis!) and have no time for larger projects. My current plans are also targetted at the next-generation Amigas (AmigaOne/Pegasos) using high-speed G3/G4 CPUs. More to come. :-)
Some words about the 11th september attacks in the USA...
I hardly can find words about what happened yesterday. It is really a shame that there are such criminal elements on earth who are willing to direct such a massaker to people. My deep sympathy with all Americans. Let's hope the best!
DPMSManager V1.23 released
Sorry. The last release didn't solve the problem completely. Also forgot to remove a 10 seconds delay used for debugging.
DPMSManager V1.22 released
This update fixes a small problem with VisualPrefs.
Added a new applet to the Java Applets page
First of all, sorry for the silence. Can't help. I really have enough to do at the moment. Anyway, if you're interested, have a look at the Java Applets-page to see the FuzzyLogic-based WaterMixApplet.
FMdriver 1.25 released
I'm glad to announce the availability of FMdriver V1.25 which contains some very useful enhancements. Now you can save and load several different video configurations (for example for 4:3 and 16:9), make time-lapse animations with FMRecorder. There were also a lot of minor fixes, FMdriver should be now really almost be perfect... ;-)
FMdriverVHI V1.25 released
This is a completely reworked version of my first FrameMachine VHI driver. This one should now really remove any problems caused in conjunction with VHI. You now also can use your several different configurations of the FMdriver system in your favourite VHI application. This VHI driver bases to 100% on my newframemachine.libary which is included on the FMdriver package (you need to download this for using this driver, too!).
A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2001!
English version / German version
FMdriver V1.14 beta released
This is the beta version of my FrameMachine video driver, it should be again a little bit faster and has a lot of more features than the last public release. Until february 2001, I cannot provide very good support for this as I now want to freeze all my projects to go on with my study. Thanks for your patience!
vlife applet released
Now the Java version of AVL is finally finished and available on my Java Applets page.
Lost all eMails of 2000-12-14/15 !!!
If you have sent me an eMail, please resend it so I can answer it! Sorry!!
Opened up a Java Applets page
This new site contains some small funny and/or useful Java Applets which I mainly wrote to satisfy my interests in java coding... :)
AmigaMPEGPlayer V1.02 for the AmigaSDK released
AmigaMPEGPlayer now is up to 25% faster and has a file requester.
writepixel V1.05 for the AmigaSDK released
It now has a sizeable window and a much cooler color gradient which changes with mouse position and time.
AmigaMPEGPlayer for the AmigaSDK released
This is version 1.00 of a MPEG Video Player for the Amiga SDK. It can playback MPEG-Anims and MPEG-System streams. Audio is not played back because the SDK supports up to now no audio output.
writepixel for the AmigaSDK released
writepixel is a very small (less than 1kB!) demo showing a realtime color gradient and transparency effects.
AmigaSDK in Action!
AmigaSDK running some stuff
Of course I have installed the AmigaSDK on my Linux-machine, too! At the moment I'm "playing" around with the VP-Assembler (VP = Virtual Processor) and trying to port over some useful programs.
The new system is really impressing fast and it is rather easy to code for it, too. But we all programmers wait for the really needed SDK-update to get the final GUI and of course Sound-support, too.
The picture shows the SDK running Quake, a selfwritten WritePixelDemo, Tunnel and of course the nice BoingBall... ;)
Software updates will follow soon!
Users of my PPCjpeg- and FMdriver-Software will soon be able to download much improved versions of the two titles. More news about this in several days!
How to flash a PC FlashBIOS... :)
Flashing a PC BIOS is simple? Not always... Not in my case... Read this short story about a really unconventional way to solve this normally quite simple task... ;)
ColdFire 5206e PCB Layout released
On public request, you now can download the PCB Layout I used for the ppQBox ColdFire CPU-board. For more information, follow the title link.
OpusSMBHandler 1.0 released
This ARexx script lets you browse through a Windows network environment with OpusMagellan. It provides the basic operations like copy, delete, rename and browse.
Amiga Autoconfig Boards
Incredible: by cleaning up my "hardware-development-table", I found a very old hardware-design of a A500 ZorroII-Board I made for testing the Amiga Autoconfig. There is also a newer version for the A2000-A4000.
BDMDebug V1.02 released
Some problems have been fixed. It should now work on WinNT, too.
DCTV infos...
Several users contacted me about my search for infos about DCTV. Now I know, that the people from Digital Creations formed together with people from NewTek a new company, called "Play Inc.". I have contacted Play Inc., let's hope that I get more information. Many thanks for your help!! Anyway, if someone knows more about the programmer or about the way DCTV works, I would be glad to get an eMail from you!
Infos about the DCTV wanted!
Around 1990, there was a incredible little hardware-box connected to the video port of the Amiga. It could display millions of colors with only little memory requirements. This hardware was produced by "Digital Creations"; the programmers were "Bill Barton", "John Botteri", "Randy Jongens" and "David Porter". What I need are contact addresses to the programmers or descriptions/sources about the used algorithms. If someone of you knows something, please don't hesitate to write me an eMail! DCTV Logo (the DCTV logo)
BDMDebug V1.00 released
This is a powerful Windows based (sorry for this!!!) BDM Debug Tool for Motorola ColdFire CPUs. If you're a developer of hardware designs using this type of CPU, this tool is a "must-have"... :)
CGXBlanker V1.25 released
A lot of good new features (ARexx interface, "Don't blank if mouse is over titlebar" option, ...) and a new blanker module "Pipe" were added!
DPMSManager V1.20 released
A lot of good new features (shell support, NOMOUSE, deactivateable DPMS-stages, ...) were added!
Now I can program my ppQBox in C!!
My brother Christian succeeded in making a GNU C ColdFire cross compiler for my SUN.
But this is only the halve thing. The output' ELF-file is not a directly runnable executable file. The platform using it needs a loader for it.
After about 2 days of searching for ELF-manuals, analyzing the output and programming the loader I'm now happy to tell you, that I now have no problems to run C-programs on my ppQBox. Now it should be much more easy to go on with developing the QOS... my own Operating System for the (pp)Qbox... :)

After finishing the network-hardware and adding a small speaker to the board (for some noisy output... :) ), I'm now working on the network software between my Amiga and the ppQBox. It's development state is about 75%, I think. I already have packet transmission between both computers and looking forward to finish the whole thing in some days.
BDMDebug finished
BDMDebug This my ColdFire BDM-Debug interface control program. I had to program it for Wind*ws because I get the needed DLL-file for controlling the interface only there. I'm sure I will make later an Amiga-port of this. I will release this tool it in the next days. More about it you find here.
Homepage updated
Because I now have some free time (semester holidays), I now have more time to work on my projects.

For registered users of ArtecScan: Today I have released an alpha version of the new ArtecScan2.0! If you want to test it, you can get it on the Download Page. Please contact me how this version works on your machine!
General Information
My plan with the release dates of my projects was faulty. I didn't expect to have so much work to do in the 5th semester. Also, I was (and I still am a bit) ill. I have to excuse me some more time to all of you - the users of my programs. But I can't go on with the same speed like in the semester holidays... None of the projects is cancelled, but the global speed will be slowed down. My current plan of development looks like the following:
1. ArtecScan
2. FMdriver
3. PPCjpeg
4. CGXBlanker, ...
The development of the WizardClasses run more or less in parallel - all my programs need them.
The development of ArtecScan goes well (as far as I have the time...), now the V2.00alpha already makes a previewscan. But there is still much work to do until I can release a beta-version for all my registered users - but I'm on the right way! Here is a screengrab of my current development environment...
ArtecScan News
All users of ArtecScan: the waiting should soon be over - I'm now working with power on the new version 2.0 of ArtecScan. I think in two or three week should be the first beta available!
